Leader and Teamship Advancement@ The Challenge of Excellence

"Excellence is the result of caring more than others think is wise, risking more than others think is safe, dreaming more than others think is practical and expecting more than others think is possible"

In Pursuit of Excellence

A Board of Directors, an Executive Team, or a Team of Leaders that aspires to excellence, needs to function like a human engine in a state of flow, managing and moving through challenges with a high degree of expertise and efficiency yet with entrepreneurial spirit and flair.

Such a leadership team has talent and feels constantly challenged. It is always learning. It articulates its Values and its 'Dream' and then defines a powerful and inspirational Strategic Vision in pursuit of that dream. In its communication of the Vision to the organisation this leadership team both inspires and challenges its people simultaneously. It has clear goals. It exists in a state of flow.

It speaks with ONE voice.

This team coaches its people to become self-aware, responsible, accountable and clear about the strategies and objectives that they will define and implement. It coaches its people and its teams to aspire to and reach their potential.

This team lives its Values, models the behaviours and skills it wants its people to adopt and mentors others as it passes on its 'wisdom'. It takes responsibility for preparing and encouraging its successors. It is this process that sets out and defines the culture of the whole organisation.

A business or organisational leadership team intent on aspiring to and maintaining excellence is like a sports team in the premier league. It has passion, it has a hunger for 'winning' and a thirst for learning. It is dedicated and self-disciplined.

It is a rare team.

So it demands unique attention and expertise.

This team consistently, and the emphasis is on 'consistently', experiments, learns and trains out of the spotlight.

It is satiated by success as defined by itself. While it is aware of its competitors and its critiques and benefits from knowledge of benchmarks, it competes with itself to be the best it can be.

In other words, it is in a league of its own.
